This store extension to a Morrisons supermarket comprised the demolition of an existing building, extension of customer car park, extensive utilities upgrades, new entrance tower, shop floor extension of 2,500 m² and a re-clad of existing elevations – all in a ‘live’ trading environment.
The project was awarded on a negotiated basis with a traditional form of contract due to the Client’s requirement for an experienced contractor with a proven live project track record. A proactive problem-solving delivery ethos, combined with strong financial management, was also required.
From the outset, this project presented huge challenges, including: the constraints of the site; extensive interaction with utilities to facilitate a power Transformer relocation and upgrade; temporary customer entrance arrangements; and the logistical challenges of working on the Argyle Peninsula.
